'Superman' Dies

Wow, some sad news this morning. Christopher Reeve died yesterday. After being paralized from an equestrian accident, he had become a great activist for stem cell research and paralysis research.

Update: This article talks about John Kerry's links to Reeve, including their meetings in the past, Kerry's mentioning Reeve during the debate on Friday, and Reeve calling Kerry to thank him personally on Saturday, the day before he passed away. It was a touching article. Some of the quotes from Kerry really celebrate Reeve's spirit.

Marriage

This pisses me off: Yahoo! News - Nicky Hilton, New Husband Seek Annulment -Report. President Bush talks about preserving the sanctity of marriage. What sanctity? We see the likes of Brittany and the Hilton sluts marrying and annuling left and right, and he is worried about preserving what? It's a bunch of bull that same-sex couples can't marry, but we have tons of heterosexual couples degrading the institution of marriage on a daily basis. It seems like they do it on a whim or without even knowing the other person. Furthermore, we have people my age getting married more and more these days. Why are people in such a rush to get married only to get a divorce a few years or months even down the road? Now this is not to say that there are wonderfully committed young couples happily in love, but there are just too many who I don't believe think things through. Sorry for this big bout of pessimism, but Bush's so-called preservation of the sanctity of marriage is crap. *send*

Digital Photo Organization

This article discusses digital photo archiving, organizing, and processing nicely. I really wish I could better-organize my digital photo collection, especially since I tend to take a lot of pictures. I'd really love to tag all my images with keywords and organize them better.

Currently I am trying out Picasa, which is pretty good, but definitely has its limitations. I'm probably asking to much to have an all-in-one application that does everything I want it to. Aside from Picasa, I also use Photoshop and Gallery in order to manipulate and web-publish my photos. I would like to try out Photoshop Elements and find out how it differs from Photoshop.

My photo suite wish list:

  • Better integrate my full archive on my hard drive with the photos I want to publish on my website
  • Mark photos locally that I want to publish to the web
  • Easily mark photos with meta-data keywords, including marking a group of photos with a set of keywords
  • Keep photo storage separate from their presentation
  • Link photo subjects to locations/maps, address book/contact information

I wish I had the time to develop my own application. Leave a comment if you have any suggestions for applications to try out.
