Missed it Again
I missed West Wing again this week. Damn VCR! That's it, I'm ordering a DVR and Digital Cable from Time Warner.

DVR/Digital Cable Update
When I said, "that's it," I wasn't kidding. I just got off the phone with The Cable Girl and ordered both Digital cable and a DVR (like a TiVo), and it's only going to cost me $10 more a month while the special lasts. After 3 months, it'll go up $5, and after 6 months, it'll go up another $5. But still, it's a great deal! Wee!

Co-op Project
As I've mentioned before, my current and last co-op is in the Software Engineering Department at RIT, working on a project called SWEnet -- the network community for software engineering education. After meeting with Professor Lutz, who is supervising the project, I found out that the web application will be demoed at the Frontiers in Education Conference during the first week of November in Colorado. Everything is going well, and I should have the desired functionality finished by then, but even so, this puts some pressure on me. Not only am I on the critical path; I am the critical path. But it will be great for this project to get some recognition and for members of the computing field to see my work.
Also, while meeting with Professor Lutz, he offered me a part-time position after I resume classes for the Winter quarter. The NSF grant that is funding the project was renewed. He acknowledged that I would be carrying the project over to the next phase. He may or may not hire a full-time co-op to work with me. Coincidently, that was a question I had for him going into the meeting, but he made the offer first. I gladly accepted.

Makara
Here's some interesting little facts about my last name. For the record, in my case it comes from a Russian ancestor.

Wilkes-Barre in the News
An escaped murder suspect in the Wilkes-Barre area surrendered to police after three days on the loose. He escaped by climbing down a 60 foot rope made of bedsheets. Gosh, I wonder what movie he got that idea from. Anywho, here's the story.

Microsoft Interview
I've been selected to interview with Microsoft on campus this Friday.
I'm too excited and nervous to say much else.

Finding Nemo Spam
Why did I get 3 spam emails in a row about preording Finding Nemo. I actually do want to see this movie, and I have every other Disney/Pixar movie except A Bug's Life, but still. *Hint, hint*

Darkness
I don't like this dark-when-I'm-leaving-work thing.
Oh, I have an interview in two weeks.

Hogwarts Headaches?
Are you kidding me? A doctor is warning that the latest Harry Potter book is causing headaches in young children who read it. We have complaints that children aren't reading enough, and now they're reading too much! First of all, where are the kids' parents? They should be supervising their reading anyway. Yes the Harry Potter books are long, but you don't read them all in one sitting! Don't blame the book for being a great and imaginative piece of literature. It's not the book's fault.

Happy Halloween
It's Halloween, and guess what that means? If you said time for another themed Google logo, you're right! Yay!
