Watermelon

My landlady gave me about a third of a watermelon before. I went to have some but realized I have neither a knife long enough nor suitable for cutting this big hunk of fruit. Well I managed to cut off a piece with a small meat knife and it eventually got the job done. Dear readers, I'm in need of a good knife set--donations accepted. Contact me for my address. My landlady also asked me today if I like brownies, because she wanted to bake me some to welcome me to the place. How sweet is that?

I'm still getting settled in to the new apartment, and other donations will also be accepted, monetary or material. I could use a new TV and home theater system and a flat panel monitor.

Oh yeah, I got that prospective co-op that I mentioned in the last entry. It's working with one of my SE professors on a project called SWENET. I started this Monday and I think it's going to be interesting.

Pollen

At some point in the past week, the seasons changed from Spring to Summer. This past weekend, coincidently, marked the beginning of summer. The past month has been mild and very rainy, but quite recently it's gotten warm and sunny, and it looks like it'll be that way in the near future. With the arrival of such nice weather, I naturally want to spend time outside to bask in the sun and get some color in my skin. Therein lies the problem: at this time of year, there's lots of pollen in the air, and my allergies bother me like a swarm of bees buzzing around me (interestingly, bees pollenate flowers). Anyway, my nose is completely stuffed up and taking some over the counter allergy meds but they don't seem to be doing much. And when I went outside today for lunch, I noticed a dusting of pollen on the bench where I ate. Ugh. On the positive side, my arms are little red so I did get some sun.

Bad Ranch

Just when I thought that Kraft made the worst ranch dressing ever, I realized that the expiration date was January 1, 2001. So that's why it tasted like shit.

Has anyone ever noticed that restaurants have the best ranch dressing? In my experience, they have. Maybe I should borrow some from Friday's.

Healthy Lunch

Back in elementary school, and even some of high school I believe, when my mom would make me a lunch, she'd pack a well balanced one, I'd be embarrassed to eat the fruit or vegetable in front of other people because I didn't want to be different. (The lunch would usually consist of a sandwich, some fruit or vegetable, chips/pretzels/popcorn, a Tastykake product/cookie item, and a drink.) Nobody else would have fruits or vegetables so I didn't want them either.

Of course, now I realize that was silly of me and I could care less what other people think about that and many other things. Now that I make my own lunch, I still follow my mom's recipe. I try to eat pretty healthily, and this usually makes for a well-balanced meal. Thanks mom.

Lift 'n' Peel

Yesterday, I discovered a great invention. I bought some French's Mustard and when I went to open the inner seal (under the cap, which are also quite new and improved) it was something I hadn't seen before. It had a tab with "Lift 'n' Peel" printed on it. And it was easy as that, just pull on the tab and the seal peels right off IN ONE PIECE! No trying to dig your nails under the seal to get it started. No tearing or stubborn pieces that won't come off. And as you may know, I am anal about little pieces not coming off, just like I am with corn strings and CD seals. I was so excited with this new seal. I guess packaging science majors do have a purpose afterall. It's the little things in life that make me a happier person.

Matrix Reloaded?

I still haven't seen the movie, but I've seen this Matrix Reloaded. LOL. I'm looking into this for my co-op project, and it looks pretty cool. Plus it's free!
